Cabin Fever Traveling Art Show & Sale Comes to The Opportunity Alliance

Art Show Features the Work of People in Recovery from Mental Illness

 

May 10th through June 9th

The Opportunity Alliance's Family Center

50 Lydia Lane, South Portland, Maine

Please join us for an opening reception on May 9th from 3pm until 7pm

 

(Portland, May 2, 2014) The arts have played an important role in The Opportunity Alliance’s efforts to connect individuals to a community and to strengthen communities throughout Cumberland County. “The creative experience, we have found, brings together people of all backgrounds; cultural, generational, and socio-economic, who can be at a creative event because they have something to bring to it and not because they necessarily have a need,” said Mike Tarpinian, President and CEO of the Opportunity Alliance. “We have found that the creative experience has been most effective in bringing individuals out of isolation.”

 

In that sense, the Cabin Fever Art Show & Sale is much more than a social event. It provides an opportunity for The Opportunity Alliance’s clients to share a creative experience. It draws people in and helps them to identify their interests as well as their desire to invest in their community.  The creative experience also encourages participants to share and value their life stories as expressed in their art.  It helps them to articulate their thoughts and feelings as they talk about their work and gain new ideas looking at the work of others.

 

“We are very happy to be a part of the Eighth Annual Cabin Fever Art Show & Sale,” said Tarpinian. “Please stop by to see the show and join us for an opening reception on May 9th from 3pm until 7pm at our Family Center in South Portland.”
