Portland Firefighters to Run TD Beach to Beacon in Support of The Opportunity Alliance

The Opportunity Alliance Named Beneficiary of Maine’s Quintessential Road Race
PORTLAND (July 2, 2013) — Firefighters from Portland's Local 740 are once again supporting The Opportunity Alliance's mission and vision of strengthening Maine's communities, this time by running in the TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race in Cape Elizabeth on August 3rd. The firefighters will be wearing The Opportunity Alliance t-shirts as they run the race. This is a continuation of a robust community partnership between The Opportunity Alliance and Portland Firefighters Local 740 that began this past winter as the firefighters donated to The Opportunity Alliance's Keep ME Warm Fund. "Keep ME Warm" provides heating assistance to income eligible households in Cumberland County to pay for a portion of their annual heating expenses. "It's always an honor as Firefighters and EMT's to support local organizations that give so much to the community that we live, work & play in," said Philip Larou, Vice President for the Portland Firefighters Local 740.

The TD Beach to Beacon 10K is one of the most popular events on the U.S road race circuit, drawing runners from throughout the region and around the world to Cape Elizabeth. The race begins near the Crescent Beach entrance on Route 77 and ends in Fort Williams Park at the Portland Head Light. "The foundation of The Opportunity Alliance's mission is to strengthen communities," said Mike Tarpinian, Chief Executive for The Opportunity Alliance. "We are honored to be a part of the TD Beach to Beacon tradition with its rich heritage of bringing our entire community together each year to support our friends and neighbors in need."
