Preventing and Responding to School Based Bias and Harassment

Webinar to Feature Experts Discussing the Recent Increase in Bias Incidents

SOUTH PORTLAND (December 2016) The Opportunity Alliance’s Maine Youth Action Network (MYAN) has assembled a panel of experts for a short webinar that will address a reported increase in bias and harassment in some of our schools. The webinar will specifically speak to prevention and response to such bias and harassment in a school context.

The panel will include:

  • Brandon Baldwin, Maine Civil Rights Team Project
  • Abi Maycock & Mike Freysinger, Maine Youth Court
  • Ken Kunin, Superintendent of South Portland School Department
  • Jerome Bennett, Disproportionate Minority Contact Coordinator at the Maine Department of Corrections
  • Phil Mantis, Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project


Our panelists have experience with prevention, bias incident response, restorative practices, and the educational leadership needed to build schools where young people can feel safe and thrive.


This webinar is open to students, parents/families, school personnel, and community members. There will be an opportunity to ask questions before and during the webinar.
