The Opportunity Alliance Celebrates Foster Care Month

May is Foster Care Month and The Opportunity Alliance is celebrating and honoring all of its therapeutic foster parents. Therapeutic Foster Care Supports Children Removed from their Homes

(May 2016) —  May is Foster Care Month and The Opportunity Alliance is celebrating and honoring all of its therapeutic foster parents.  Therapeutic Foster Care is a specialized form of foster care for children and youth who have been removed from their homes by Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services because of abuse or neglect. Given their experiences, many of these children need additional supervision, stability, and care, and often at a moment’s notice. The Opportunity Alliance’s foster families create safe and stable homes for these children in transition. The Opportunity Alliance provides each foster family with a case manager – a knowledgeable social worker able to connect the family with all the resources and training they need.  The Opportunity Alliance also organizes foster family discussion groups, advocacy projects and social gatherings; assists with licensing and paperwork; and arranges respite care to keep families connected and nurtured.
