40 Hour Mediation Training

Mediation Training at The Opportunity Alliance

Introductory 40 Hour Certificate Training to be Offered in Bangor in April and South Portland in June

The 40 Hour Certificate Training in Transformative Mediation is for individuals interested in becoming a Mediator or applying mediation skills to their personal and professional lives. This program will focus on both the problem solving orientation (facilitative, directive) and transformative orientation models. The training is highly interactive and will incorporate different styles of learning including presentations, demonstrations, interactive discussions and role-play practice with mediation scenarios.  Guest mediation coaches will provide additional guidance and experience in your learning.

At the end of the training, participants report an amazing shift in the way they talk, listen and problem solve – at work and in their family life. The primary focus of the training is both on learning new skills, understanding how to apply them in your life and the steps to developing a Mediation practice.

In this training you will learn:

  • Conflict theory and management
  • Theories and practice of mediation – both problem solving and Transformative
  • Screening for mediation appropriateness
  • Ways to build and enhance client rapport
  • The impact of Mediator influence
  • Standards of Mediator practice & ethical issues
  • The professional limitations of
    mediation practice

At the conclusion of the training, participants will receive a Mediation Certificate, a commonly accepted state and national standard for new Mediators. Note:  Participants are expected to attend all training sessions to receive Certificate.
